A Ballarat removalist has been fined $1500 after the Environment Protection Authority said it found evidence of household belongings being burnt on a property.
EPA South West Manager Eve Graham said they found the property following a tip-off from the community.
Ms Graham said burning waste isn't an appropriate disposal option because the smoke can be a problematic source of air pollution, more than cars and trucks.
"Industrial waste should never be burnt and it does not matter if there are fire restrictions or not," she said.
"The only way to dispose of this waste is by landfill.
"We recommend considering reuse options in the first instance, however if that can't be achieved then disposal or recycling options are available at landfills and transfer stations."
The individual has 28 days to pay the fine, seek an internal review or have the matter dealt with in court.Copyright © 2013 Yahoo!7
