Local schools join program to tackle bullying

Eight Latrobe Valley schools have signed up to a program to help stamp out cyber bullying.

Morwell MP Russell Northe said the schools have joined the eSmart program, which is a partnership between the state government and the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

"Too often we see cases of bullying extending through the social media to the home - 24 hours a day - and we are committed to giving our young people a real voice in standing up to bullying and saying no to being a bystander," he said.

Mr Northe said Sacred Heart, Kosciusko Street, Liddiard Road, Yinnar, Churchill North, St Vincent de Paul, Tyers and Yallourn North Primary Schools are among almost 900 government, Catholic and Independent schools across Victoria participating in this program.

The program, which provides each school with $2000 to help start their eSmart journey, raises awareness of online safety and reducing online risks, including cyber bullying, sexting and protecting their digital reputation.
