prime7q1 November 14, 2011, 11:20 am

Police are appealing for more witnesses to a two-car crash which killed a man and injured two people in Ashmore on Sunday evening.

Gold Coast District Officer Superintendent Paul Zeibarth said a blue Mazda sedan crossed a median strip on Wardoo Street at 6.30pm and collided with a black Suzuki sedan containing two people.

He said the driver of the Mazda sedan was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the Suzuki were both injured.

The passenger of the Suzuki is still in Gold Coast Hospital in a serious condition.

Supt Zeibarth said early indications suggest the Mazda driver might not have been wearing a seatbelt.

He said police want witnesses who saw the crash to come forward, particularly if they saw the Mazda before the crash.

"Preliminary indications is that, that vehicle (Mazda) may have conducted some of kind of an erratic manouvre prior to crossing over the median strip," he said.

Supt Zeibarth said police need more people to come forward.

Anybody with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

This is the 6th fatal crash on the Gold Coast and 7th death on local roads.
