The Power of Choice is a voluntary organisation delivering road awareness programmes to Year 11 students. The success of the programme has seen a zero road toll of our past participants since the programme began in 2005. The success of the programme was recognised in 2009 with the Committee being recognised in the Regional Achievement Awards.
The programme is designed to give students knowledge to make the right choice as drivers, passengers and pedestrians. Throughout the half-day volunteer program students are shown a scenario using the local rescue crews with a real car. The students then divide into smaller groups and are spoken to by a group of presenters related to the industry of motoring and its effects. During the presentations the students are constantly reminded that choosing the right attitude is their decision. Students are also shown the consequences of making the wrong choice.
The presentation not only covers the negative outcomes, but also the positive aspects of driving. A driving instructor and mechanic take the students through the basics of each.
Power of Choice is not a learn to drive programme, it's a learn to think programme. How you can support us
