Woman confronts burglar, wrestles back belongings

A brave woman has confronted a burglar outside her Chifley home and wrestled back her belongings, including a television set.

Police say they were called to the home at 10.15am on Wednesday, when the victim reported she had returned home to find a man walking down her driveway carrying her television.

"She confronted man, who dropped the set and ran into the backyard," ACT Policing said in a statement.

"The offender returned carrying a bag, which the victim recognised as her property.

"He got into the passenger's side of a silver vehicle parked in the driveway.

"The victim grabbed the bag back and a tussle ensued, which led to the offender releasing the stolen property before being driven off."

Police say two people have been identified as persons of interest and investigations are continuing.

Sergeant John Giles said while the victim's actions were courageous, police were concerned that confronting offenders potentially placed the victim at risk.

"The view of police is that property can be replaced, but people can't," Sgt Giles said.

"In this case, our victim acted on impulse and her actions did have a positive outcome.

"But we would prefer that in such situations, victims should avoid confrontation, immediately contact police on 131-444, or 000 in an emergency, and remember as much detail of the offenders and their vehicle as possible."
