Motorcyclist dies after crash

A man has died after a ute crashed into a motorbike at Googong near Queanbeyan on Sunday.

Police say the ute was travelling along Old Cooma Road when it veered onto the incorrect side of the roadway and collided with a Yamaha motor cycle about 2.20pm.

Police arrived at the scene and rendered first aid to the cyclist, but he died at the scene.

They say the car continued along the road where it again crossed the incorrect side of the road, down an embankment and collided with a tree.

A witness returned the driver of the utility to police where he was subjected to a road side test which proved positive.

The 65-year-old Queanbeyan man was arrested and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis, returning a reading of 0.2.

Police say the man has not held a license since 1970 and is disqualified from driving until March 2014.

The man was charged with aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death and drive whilst disqualified.

Investigations are continuing.
